How to Write a Resume – Video Series: Overview (Part 1)

This is the first part of our video series on how to write a Canadian resume.  Each video discusses a different component of a resume in short video clips.  This first video focuses on the purpose of a resume.

A resume is arguably the most important part of your job hunt – it is what can get your foot in the door and get you that first interview.  The whole purpose of a resume is to demonstrate that you can do the job on the first page and outline what you can do for the employer.  Take the time to make sure you are displaying your education and experience in the best light.

Your resume should be very clear about what you can do for the employer.  Take the time to understand the company where you are applying and what they value. Look at your resume from an employer’s perspective; why should they consider you for the position? What can you do for them?  How will your skills and experience translate into productivity or the ultimate customer service experience?
