Job Profile

Under the general supervision of the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor or designated Foreman/Leading Industrial Mechanic, the Industrial Mechanic is responsible to carry out mechanical maintenance, repairs, overhauls, and installations on all types of mechanical equipment, as assigned.

As the Mechanic – Journey Industrial you will:

  1. Perform mechanical repairs to complex and varying sizes of pumping units, compressors, overhead cranes, moving bridges, centrifuges, grinders, etc.
  2. Install new mechanical equipment, as required.
  3. Align equipment to required specifications and tolerances.
  4. Repair and install chemical equipment.
  5. Make connections for offloading hazardous commodities.
  6. Repair and overhaul natural gas, diesel, and gasoline, internal combustion engines.
  7. Carry out preventative maintenance and maintain accurate records and sketches.
  8. Work with a Computerized Work Maintenance System (CWMS).
  9. Practice workplace safety and adhere to required regulations.
  10. Perform other duties consistent with the classification, as required.

Your education and qualifications include:

  1. Grade 12 education or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. A minimum of five years’ experience in the Industrial Mechanic’s (Millwright) trade.
  3. Experience in the maintenance, repairing, and troubleshooting all types of pumps.
  4. Experience in installing and servicing mechanical seals.
  5. Experience in aligning equipment to required tolerances.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical equipment maintenance (HVAC).
  7. Experience in troubleshooting and analyzing problems on process related equipment.
  8. Must be able to read blueprints and draw sketches for modifications and blueprint updates.
  9. Must be able to interpret vibrations and analyze same on machinery and equipment using available equipment, i.e. vibration analyzers, laser shaft alignment computers, etc.
  10. Demonstrated knowledge of complex hydraulic systems.
  11. Experience with the use and handling of hazardous chemicals and related equipment would be preferred.
  12. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts (including suppliers), contractors and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
  13. Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that is applicable to the area of work. (i.e. Confined entry, hazardous conditions, etc.).

Conditions of employment:

  1. The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  2. Must possess Industrial Mechanic’s (Millwright) Inter-provincial Trade Certification with a Red seal.
  3. A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense.
  4. Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence.
  5. Must be physically capable of performing all of the duties of the position in various weather conditions. Will be required to work from scaffolds, ladders, in confined spaces and in hazardous locations, where wearing of self-contained breathing equipment is necessary due to lack of oxygen and/or presence of harmful gases.
  6. Must have SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) Certification* or have the ability to acquire within 3 months of the appointment (requires candidate to be clean shaven), in accordance with the CSA Standard.*

Position Reports To: Mechanical Maintenance Foreman/Leading Industrial Mechanic

  1. If and when this temporary position becomes permanent, the successful applicant to this bulletin will automatically receive this position and a further bulletin will not be necessary.
  2. Applicants may be required to undergo testing to determine their knowledge, abilities and skills as they relate to the qualifications of the position.
  3. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a medical assessment at the Occupational Safety and Health Branch.
  4. Must provide own hand tools with respect to the trade of Industrial Mechanic.
  5. Wastewater Treatment Plants are facilities that during the course of a normal working day may subject an employee to noxious odours, gas, dust and occasional exposure to adverse weather.
  6. The successful applicant will be required to provide a Notice of Driver’s Licence In Force document upon request.
  7. The successful applicant will be required to complete job specific training required for this position as directed.
