Kitimat LNG – Why you should consider more than a camp job

In October 2018 LNG Canada announced they are going ahead with the construction of a 40 billion dollar Liquefied Natural Gas Plant and shipping facility in Kitimat, BC. We immediately began getting inquiries from candidates interested in working on the project, but interests from employers in the region have come long before the announcement. From welders to construction project managers, to procurement and millwork and carpenters, the towns of Prince Rupert, Terrace and Kitimat region are always hiring.

Living and working in nearby Prince Rupert, Terrace and even Kitimat are great options for long-term employment and growing a career. With an unemployment rate of only 4% (way below the national average), the North Coast Nechako region has not only jobs in the resource industry, but in logistics/transportation, construction, government and manufacturing.

Prince Rupert the largest community in the region with 12,000 people. It features one of the largest ports in Canada, shipping up to 24 million tonnes annually. And it has thousands of spin-off jobs for those employed beyond the ports. Terrace is next with 11,000 residents and then Kitimat at 8,335.

With slightly higher populations, community facilities and entertainment, Terrace and Prince Rupert are great choices as places to live. Just like many places in Canada, they have lots of outdoor activities including fishing and hunting. Also, skiing is an amazing opportunity in the area with Northern Escape Heli out of Terrace and the ski town of Smithers a couple hours away.

Living and working in a town is a lot better in our opinion than working a camp job for the construction of a project. And you can trust that the Pacific North Coast of Canada delivers a great lifestyle.
