Why Temporary and Contract Workers are needed now more than ever

With the stress everyone is facing and the illness that arises, we are seeing more and more sick days being taken by employees. With the average number of sick days increasing half a day every year to 10.3 days taken each year, the need for temporary coverage is more important than ever.

Without temporary help, more work must be shouldered by the existing employees. On a sustained basis, this extra stress can negatively impact the immune system resulting in more sick days!

Alternatively, overtime can be used to cover absences. But, sustained overtime is shown to reduce overall productivity, resulting in less work being done for twice the cost.

Finally, we have to recognize that all employment will come to an end and in some cases, it will come due to illness or inability to perform the duties of the job. If employees quit or go on long term disability there is a huge cost in lost knowledge, skills and having to find a replacement.

Having temporary workers who have provided coverage on a temporary basis ready to go can prevent much of the negative impacts of all these things.
