Automotive Industry Recruiting in 2017

As the Detroit Auto Show kicks into high gear it turns out 2017 will be a hot year for recruitment in the Auto Industry. With sales of automobiles and light trucks being over 17.5 million units in the US in 2016(1) and expected stay high in 2017(2), manufacturers, dealers and even automotive recruiters are excited about the year to come.
Denso is even using the show to set up a recruitment booth to target Engineers, Skilled Trades and Professionals at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). For three days when automotive professionals attend Denso is trying to leverage the event for recruitment and even conducting on-site interviews.
Industry trades shows are a good place for recruiting sales people, sales managers, technical sales people and Engineers, so it is interesting that Denso is including Skilled Trades on it’s target list for the show. With skilled trades being at the top of the most difficult vacancies to fill for most companies it is not surprising that Tier 1 and 2 manufacturing companies are pulling out new stops to find the talent they need.
As automation moves from the manufacturing process to autonomous driving the war for skilled talent
will continue to increase in the automotive recruitment world. From Artificial Intelligence experts and advanced composite engineers for tier 1 companies, to skilled trades supervisors and maintenance managers for manufacturers, to Automobile mechanics with advanced electronic diagnostic skills for dealerships, the need for experts and innovators will just continue throughout 2017 and beyond.
