OverviewA private equity-backed manufacturing company with significant U.S. and international operations is seeking a hands-on Sr. Accountant to oversee two production facilities located the Western Chicago Suburbs. This role offers full financial ownership of both plants and serves as a key business partner to operations, sales, and regional finance leadership.
The organization is in growth mode with a history of acquisitions and potential for advancement as strategic corporate functions shift to the Chicagoland area.
Ideal Background:This role is suited for a seasoned Sr. cost accountant or plant controller with manufacturing experience and strong ERP fluency. Prior experience with IQMS or Oracle is a plus.
Position Summary
The Plant Controller provides financial leadership and decision-support for plant operations, ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and sound financial planning. This is a hands-on role requiring deep involvement in daily accounting, cost analysis, and forecasting, along with the ability to influence operational efficiency and support strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

Full ownership of daily/month-end accounting activities: journal entries, reconciliations, and system transactions

Regular financial reporting and plant-level financial analysis

Oversee costing and quoting processes in collaboration with Sales, Ops, and Regional Finance

Lead annual budgeting and monthly forecasting for both locations

Support internal control and compliance activities

Analyze standard labor and material costs, including variance reporting

Respond to internal/external audit requests

Support CapEx and other operational initiatives with financial analysis

Participate in continuous improvement efforts and ad hoc projects as needed
Qualifications
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
Experience:
-
5+ years of relevant finance/accounting experience in a manufacturing environment

Plant-level or multi-site experience preferred
Skills:

Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail

Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office

Experience with ERP systems (IQMS and/or Oracle preferred)

Ability to work independently and take full ownership of responsibilities

Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
