Heavy-Duty / Commercial Transport Head Mechanic
McRae’s Tank Service FV Ltd. is recruiting a Heavy-Duty / Commercial Transport Head Mechanic to lead the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of our commercial transport vehicles and equipment. This role is critical to ensuring the safe, reliable operation of our fleet while maintaining full compliance with BC regulations and safety standards. Our team performs mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on company fleet vehicles according to DOT & OHSA regulations. We have a specific focus on medium and heavy duty diesel tractor and trailers.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise, excellent mechanical skills, and the ability to oversee maintenance operations
Key Responsibilities
Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy-duty and commercial transport vehicles and equipment
Ensure fleet compliance with BC CVSE, WorkSafeBC, and applicable federal regulations; including inspection and repairs
Lead and coordinate maintenance schedules, preventative maintenance programs, and repairs
Maintain accurate service, inspection, and repair records
Coordinate with management to minimize downtime and improve fleet reliability
Ensure shop safety standards, procedures, and best practices are followed at all times
Respond to service calls; pick up and deliver vehicles as required
Qualifications & Requirements
Red Seal Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician or Commercial Transport Mechanic certification (preferred)
Minimum 3-5 years of experience working on heavy-duty/commercial transport vehicles
Strong knowledge of BC transport and safety regulations
Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
Knowledgeable in airbrakes and electrical systems
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Able to supply own automotive hand tools (not heavy duty or diagnostic tools)
Valid Class 3 driver’s license and Air Brakes endorsement a strong asset
Must be bondable
