Our client is seeking a Maintenance Superintendent to provide day to day direction and assistance to the Maintenance team at their sawmill located in cozy Chemainus, BC, just 30 minutes south of Nanaimo. Working closely with the Production team, you will organize and execute corrective and preventative maintenance activities with the goal to drive improved equipment reliability and reduced overall maintenance costs. Education:  Millwright certification, Red Seal  Inter-Provincial endorsement preferred.


  • 10 plus years of experience working in the forestry industrial maintenance department.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supervising and managing staff.

 Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of sawmill or other heavy industry maintenance and repair.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Understanding of financial reports and forecasting.

  • High level of integrity and professionalism.

  • Ability to motivate and engage hourly employees to perform at a higher standard.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical, problem solving and logical thinking skills.

  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset.

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, proficiency in the use of Project Management and CMMS is desired.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in safety and environmental stewardship.

  • Support the analysis of downtime reports and other relevant metrics, identifying opportunities.

  • Supervises all maintenance activities and supports capital project cost management and delivery schedules.
